Awulu Friday Ayegba, a relationship manager with a new generation bank, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly withdrawing N14,850,000.00 from one of the bank’s customers’ accounts.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, confirmed the arrest of Ayegba in a statement on Thursday.
According to the EFCC statement, Ayegba fraudulently withdrawn N14.8 million from a customer’s account between June 7 and July 21, 2023.
He allegedly impersonated Henry Olowo and Terseer Shibiam by using fake passport photographs, national identification numbers, and phone numbers to open bank accounts with two company names, Sulib Complex & Investments and Seamless & More Global, that are not duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, in order to withdraw funds.
According to the anti-graft agency, Ayegba forged documents belonging to one Nduka Obinna in order to fraudulently apply for a loan facility worth N40 million while planning to flee to Europe with his family.
The EFCC stated that Ayegba will be charged in court as soon as the investigations are completed.
