The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Senator Bukola Saraki, President of the 8th Senate over allegations of theft and money laundering.
The former governor of Kwara state, was detained on Saturday, Premium Times sources familiar with the development said, a situation that may trigger another episode of troubles for the politician.
Between 2015 and 2019, he faced allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets.
He was however acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.
Chronicle NG reports that he is also facing corruption trial in Kwara. In May, a committee set up to probe the sale of Kwara State assets recommended the prosecution of Saraki.
The committee’s white paper accused him and other government officials of economic sabotage against the state for allegedly selling public assets to their cronies at giveaway prices.
