The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the federal government a 48-hour ultimatum to reverse the ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s song ‘Tell Your Papa’ or face litigation.

The song, which takes a swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, was prohibited from radio and TV broadcast over its “objectionable nature”.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) cited the song’s violation of public decency standards on broadcast platforms.

In a statement via X, SERAP warned that if the federal government failed to lift the ban, it will take the matter to court.

“The Tinubu administration must immediately reverse the unlawful ban by the National Broadcasting Commission stopping Nigerian radio and TV stations from airing Eedris Abdulkareem’s new single,” the statement reads.

“We’ll see in court if the ban is not reversed within 48 hours.”

Eedris also reacted to the ban, saying the NBC action is reminiscent of his 2004 experience with his hit song ‘Jaga Jaga,’ which was also banned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

In June 2024, the rapper also released a song titled ‘Emilokan’, where he called out Enoch Adeboye, the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

He challenged the cleric to be “critical” of Tinubu’s government as he did during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
