Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2023 governorship election.
Wike encouraged the governor to stay focused, describing the victory as a renewed summons to selfless service to the people of Edo State.
In a statement issued yesterday by his senior special assistant on public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka, the minister stated that the Supreme Court’s ruling was a definitive confirmation of Okpebholo’s freely granted mandate by Edo people.
“This victory is for the people of Edo State, who elected Governor Okpebholo. It is a call for greater commitment to the service of the people.
“I congratulate the governor and urge him to keep doing his best for the lifting of Edo State and its people,” he stated.
Wike also urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asuerime Ighodalo, to work with Okpebholo to advance the state’s development.
“Now that a final answer has been provided as to the question of who won the governorship election, it behoves all opponents of the governor to, in the collective interest of Edo State, join hands with him,” the politician said.
The minister stressed the need for togetherness, encouraging all stakeholders to choose Edo’s success over political divisions.
