Masked DSS operatives who barred lawmakers from entering the National Assembly have now exited the entrance

Department of State Services, DSS, operatives have exited the entrance of the National Assembly with lawmakers now entering freely into the complex,” Chronicle NG reports.

Masked operatives of DSS had earlier barred lawmakers from gaining entrance into the complex without reasons.

Officially, the lawmakers are on recess from 24 July and are expected to reconvene on 25 September 2018, although there have been calls by the executive for the legislators to return to work.

But on Tuesday morning, masked operatives of the DSS mounted the entrance to the National Assembly complex with rumours that the Senate President and his deputy could be impeached.

But within minutes, the DSS operatives allowed lawmakers entrance without citing any reasons for their actions.

A source close to the National Assembly told Chronicle NG that, “I can confirm to you that members are now entering freely as they should.”

“That is the right thing to do while we await whatever explanations of what may have happened.

Journalists and other observers reports that the PDP senators were putting up a show to make the federal government and acting President Yemi Osinbajo look bad.

Senators loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki did not say the truth when they alleged that the early morning blockade of the entrance of the National Assembly was to enable APC senators reconvene and carry out an impeachment of Saraki.

A TVC journalist who entered the Senate after the police and DSS lifted the blockade said there was no APC parliamentarian at sight.

The journalist quizzed why were the PDP senators such as Ben Bruce, Sani Yerima and Rufai Ibrahim will make a ruckus at the gate and circulate videos suggesting an impeachment of their principal.

Even the Twitter account which was supposed to serve the Nigerian senate began to assume a more political tone.
