The Borno State Police Command has announced the recovery of an unexploded ordnance (UXO) and multiple explosive fragments in Maiduguri, following the recent fire and explosion at the Giwa Barracks military armory.
Police sources revealed that a specialized team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit was immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the device, suspected to be linked to the earlier military incident, was safely evacuated by bomb disposal personnel.
“In addition to the rocket, mortar bombs and projectile fragments were recovered from nearby residential areas,” the statement noted.
In line with established procedures, the recovered explosives were safely destroyed in a controlled detonation at the EOD-CBRN Training School in Wulari at approximately 4:38 p.m. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the operation.
The area has since been stabilized, with both police and military teams continuing clearance and surveillance activities.
The police command has urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious objects to the nearest security agency.
