A dynamite explosion shook the Action People’s Party secretariat along the GRA axis in Port Harcourt, Rivers State’s capital, on Monday morning.
It was reported that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Monday, at 1 a.m.
The intruders allegedly tossed dynamite into the secretariat building, breaking windows and doors and destroying other party property.
This comes amid reports that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, seeks to relocate with his supporters to the APP following the alleged hijacking of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state by his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
Our correspondent on the scene of the explosion, claims that the ceiling and fixtures in the building were also ruined, and some party officials were seen debating the situation.
A party official, who refused to reveal his identity to our reporter, claimed the incident was politically driven.
He stated, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today.
“This is politically motivated, and there are no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”
At the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police command had yet to speak on the incident.
