At least three persons have died, and several others are missing after a boat capsized while ferrying commuters across the collapsed Namnai Bridge in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The tragic mishap occurred on Friday night around 7:00 p.m.
Jidda Mayoreniyo, Chairman of Inland Water Transporters in Taraba State, confirmed the incident to reporters, claiming that the boat was carrying both passengers and vehicles when it capsized.
He also stated that four drowned vehicles had been recovered, with some passengers rescued and others still missing.
It was also discovered that bags and personal possessions submerged in the accident have yet to be recovered, exacerbating the loss.
The Namnai Bridge, which collapsed more than a year ago, has forced commuters to rely on boats for transportation across the river, which passengers say has increasingly grown dangerous.
