At least six people have been killed and two others kidnapped by bandits at the Jargaba community in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attack occurred late Thursday as bandits in large numbers stormed the community and headed to a public area where men usually sit to socialise and started shooting sporadically at six men who were seated, killing them in the process.
DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, while confirming the attack in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Friday, said, “Yes, bandits attacked the community and shot people, but two died on the spot, while four of them who were injured yesterday were also confirmed dead today, making a total of six people that were killed. But, as for the kidnapping incident, I’m not sure when I will contact the DPO to confirm with him.”
It was also gathered that two children were injured during the attack, with sources stating that stray bullets hit the children as the bandits were said to have operated with little or no resistance from either local or government security operatives.
Abdulrahman Ahmed, the council’s representative in the state House of Assembly, acknowledged the occurrence and expressed concern about the community’s and council’s security concerns.
He said, “Earlier today, I received multiple distress calls from friends and relatives in Jargaba village, one of the wards under Bakori LGA, informing me that the village was under attack by bandits.
“According to the reports I received, the attackers went straight to a common gathering spot where residents usually sit to rest and converse. Among those present was a member of the local community watch group. Without warning, the bandits opened fire on the gathering, killing all six individuals present, including an assistant to the commandant of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) of the council area.
“After the assailants left, it was discovered that two children had also been killed in the course of the attack. In addition, it is suspected that they abducted two individuals from a nearby house.
“This is the information I have received so far from those on the ground. Firstly, I pray that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the victims and grants them eternal peace. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of Jargaba, the entire Bakori LGA, and the Executive Governor of Katsina State over this tragic incident.
“May Allah bring an end to such senseless violence. I have already contacted the relevant security agencies, and I am working closely with them to ensure immediate response and long-term support to the affected community.
“May Allah protect us all from such tragedies in the future. Ameen, the House member, said.”
