Bandits on Thursday killed one Aliyu Agaji and kidnapped nine others in two communities in Niger State’s Kontagora local government area.
Chronicle NG gathered that the incident occurred about 9 a.m., when the bandits entered the Waya community and abducted four persons. They later went to the Basawa community at 10 p.m., when they kidnapped another five persons.
A local vigilante who requested anonymity said security authorities apprehended them at the Umma Farm on the outskirts of town and freed the kidnapped victims.
“The local vigilantes mobilised to challenge them, and they were able to intercept the kidnapped victims and rescue them unhurt at Umma Farms at the outskirts of the town.
“Unfortunately, the bandits killed one person named Aliyu Agaji and injured another during an exchange of gunfire,” the vigilante said.
When contacted, the commissioner for Homeland Security, Mohammed Bello, on Friday stated that the report was still being investigated.
“The report is still being investigated,” he said.
