A group of unidentified armed men reportedly stormed the palace of the Emir of Kagara in Rafi Local Government Council of Niger State.
It was gathered that bandits, who were about 60 in number invaded the Emir’s palace around 6pm on Tuesday evening.
Eyewitnesses say that the Emir, Alhaji Ahmed Attahiru (II) had been away from the palace for about two weeks prior to the incident.
Reports say that the gunmen who came in about 20 motorcycles, shot sporadically as residents fled for sfaety.
“The armed men arrived on twenty motorcycles through the Madaka road from where the Kagara boys were kidnapped some months back, this evening. They attacked the Emir’s Palace and the Kagara market. People were running helter skelter for safety. We cried to the security agencies and they arrived to help us. Many have left their homes and taken refuge in the bush.
“The situation is bad now because of the network that has been jammed. We don’t know what is happening,” the source stated.
The Niger state police command has not confirmed the incident.
It is still unclear if anyone was kidnapped or killed during the attack.
Chronicle NG recalls that bandits attacked Government Science Secondary School Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of the state on February 17, 2021.
42 persons were abducted during the attack, among which were 27 students.
The victims were released ten days after following an intervention by security operatives in the state.
