The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Nnanna Charles and Okoye Chukwunonso, in connection with the possession of two stolen trucks loaded with cement worth N17 million.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by a victim who reported being defrauded after a failed business transaction.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were tracked down after the police traced the cement to various retail locations across Anambra.
Ikenga explained that the victim had met an individual identified as Edwin Emeka through an online platform. Emeka had allegedly requested the supply of two truckloads of cement but became unreachable immediately after the delivery was made.
“Following a complaint received by police operatives attached to the 33 Police Station on how one Edwin Emeka of unknown address defrauded an unsuspecting member of the public of two trucks load of cement worth N17m only, arrested one Nnanna Charles and Okoye Chukwunonso in possession of the rip-off goods,” the statement read.
“The victim met Edwin Emeka online and has been in communication with him. Immediately the cement was supplied, all attempts to get to Emeka proved abortive, before the police operatives traced the goods to different shops in the state.
“The two suspects are currently undergoing interrogations to provide more information on how to arrest Edwin and other syndicate members.
“The case highlights the importance of vigilance especially those we meet online for business transactions and other personal engagements to prevent harm or loss of life and property.”
Ikenga added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations
