Goods and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in an early hour inferno that gutted a plaza, affecting seven buildings beside Great Nigeria Insurance building Leventis Bus Stop, Balogun Market, Martins Street, Lagos Island.
At press time, no casualty recorded.
Recall that similar incident occurred sometime last year September, when several properties were destroyed in an inferno that gutted a section of the market that lasted for about four days before it was finally put out by fire fire fighters.
Director General of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, assured that there was no cause for alarm, as responders were on ground to curtail the raging fire.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, “On arrival at the above scene, it was discovered that a four (4) storey plaza had been gutted by fire.
“Cause was identified as resulting from improperly stored fuel. This fire has escalated to adjoining buildings totaling seven (7) in number and now is being contained by the emergency responders, of both Lagos Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Port Authority, NPA Fire Service.

“Seven buildings are affected and one has collapsed. ”
“All responders are on ground and progress is being made. We urge for calm.”
