Adekunle Gold, the Nigerian singer, has introduced a free health insurance programme to support 1,000 individuals living with sickle cell disease.
The initiative, launched through Adekunle Gold Foundation and tagged ‘5 Star Care,’ aims to alleviate the financial strain of medical treatment and ensure access to comprehensive healthcare, including routine checkups, emergency care, and long-term support.
The ‘Sade’ hitmaker announced the scheme on Instagram in commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day.
Adekunle Gold also shared that the programme was inspired by his own journey with the condition and the transformative impact of proper care.
The singer added that the initiative is supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LASHMA) and Sickle Cell Management Initiatives.
“Today is World Sickle Cell Day and I want to take a moment to share something my team and I have been working on. This year through the Adekunle Gold Foundation, we are launching a new program called ‘5 Star Care’,” he said.
“A free health insurance scheme for 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos, Nigeria.
“We believe every individual deserves a 5 star care no matter where you’re from, what you earn or what you’re going through.
“This program is made possible in partnership with Lagos State Ministry of Health (LASHMA) and Sickle Cell Management Initiatives (SAMI).
“Our goal is to ease the financial burden of managing sickle cell and help more people get the quality care they deserve without stress.
“As someone who’s walked this path I know how powerful it is to have the right support.”
Eligible beneficiaries can apply here or register in person on June 21 at 228, Amosu Street, Off Bode Thomas Road, Surulere, Lagos.
Adekunle Gold has been vocal about his sickle cell journey, most notably through his 2022 single ‘5 Star’.
