Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has called for collective efforts to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai, who visited Sokoto State on Saturday as part of his grassroots mobilisation effort to rally support for the opposition alliance, warned that if the APC was allowed another chance, the country’s prospects would be jeopardised.
He branded the APC as “incompetent and clannish” and warned that the party’s continuing hold on power threatened the country’s unity and progress.
El-Rufai, speaking at a series of sessions with political players, youth groups, and women from throughout the state’s 23 local government areas, underlined the urgent need to rescue the nation from “poor governance and failed leadership.”
“I didn’t get into politics to enrich myself but to serve. And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but also take action to reverse the situation,” he said.
The former governor stated that the opposition coalition’s choice of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for 2027 was a calculated effort to unite Nigerians under a genuine alternative that prioritises national interests over personal ambitions.
He said, “If we allow this APC government another term, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be destroyed. This is the fight of our lives.”
El-Rufai stated that the alliance will continue to rally Nigerians across the country to oppose and vote out the ruling party.
Speaking at one of the gatherings, Abubakar Gada, a major opposition leader in Sokoto, reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to providing credible and competent leadership at both the state and national levels.
