Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will not declare his interest to contest for the 2023 presidency on Thursday, numerous sources have told Chronicle NG.

According to a top source that is close to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Vice President is yet to conclude when and how he will declare.

The source explained that people close to the Vice President are finalizing plans  for him to declare but that it will not happen on Thursday.

“I can tell you for a fact that the Vice President is going to declare for 2023 but it is not going to happen on Thursday. I think his supporters do not have to worry because he will declare for sure.

Asked why the Vice President keeps postponing his declaration date, the APC chieftain told Chronicle NG that all the previous dates rumoured were not picked by the Vice President.

“The Vice President has never picked a date,” he said, adding that, “When the Vice President eventually declares Nigerians will receive the news via official channels.

Another source close to President Muhammadu Buhari told Chronicle NG that the Vice President is more focused on the task at hand and does not want to be overwhelmed by politics.

“The Vice President is a man that likes to carry out tasks bestowed on him to the letter, he does not want politics to distract him as he continues to work with the President.

Chronicle NG asked this source if the Vice President will eventually declare, he said, “I don’t want to say yes or no. I think we should leave that decision to the Vice President. He is capable and experienced and it will be no surprise at all if he decides to succeed his principal.

It will be recalled that an associate of the Vice President who is also an arrowhead of The Progressive Lawyers for Osinbajo claimed Prof. Osinbajo will declare his intention to contest on Thursday.
