Taofeek Adeagbo, 18, was arrested for murdering his father in his sleep by beating him with an iron rod, and his mother, Rashidat Adeagbo, was also detained for concealing knowledge about the heinous deed.

The culprit, who was presented alongside 25 other suspected criminals at the Oyo State Police Command in Ibadan, committed the terrible deed on the day of Eid Fitri at Tede, Atisbo local government.

According to the police complaint, the suspect struck his father in the head with an iron rod while he was sleeping.

According to the article, his father went to bed on Friday shortly after the celebration, unaware that death was on the horizon.

The suspect who could not explain the rationale behind his action said the heinous act has nothing to do with the frosty relationship between his parents.

The suspect in an interview with newsmen said, ”I am a student of the Progressives Secondary school, Tede. I am 18 years old.

“I don’t know what came upon me on that fateful day as I woke up at midnight and headed for where my dad was sleeping and hit him with the iron rod which resulted in his death.”

His action was corroborated by the Police report, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso in a statement disclosed that, “on Friday, 21 April 2023, at about 0800hrs one Adeagbo Taofeek ‘m’ of Somola area Tede, reported at Tede Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same day at about 0630hrs his nephew named Adeagbo Ismail ‘m’ came to inform him that when he woke up around 0600hrs he met his father one Adeagbo Jimoh ‘m’ lying dead where he was sleeping inside the compound with a serious mark of violence on his forehead.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 21/04/2023 at about 2300hrs the Suspect, Adeagbo Ismail ‘m’ struck his Late Father on the Head with an Iron rod where he was sleeping leading to his death.

“The suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime.

“He confessed further that his mother, one Adeagbo Rashidat ‘f’ was aware that he killed his father and concealed the information.

“The said Adeagbo Rashidat ‘f was also arrested.”

However, his mother, Rasheed Adeagbo in a separate interview said she woke up to see the lifeless body of her husband on the floor.

According to her, “I woke up the children for the early morning Islamic prayer only to see the lifeless body of my husband on the floor.

“I raised the alarm and people gathered in our compound. Taofeek has gone out to inform the family members of the demise of his father.

“I have seven children for my late husband even though we normally quarrel, I will never wish him dead.

“The family members reported the case at the Police station. A combined team of the police asked for all the children but I thought Taofeek had not come back but only to discover that he was hiding under the bed.

“I asked him whether he knows anything about the death of his father and he confessed to the crime.”
