At least 12 persons have been confirmed dead and many others injured as over 300 gun-wielding bandits raided Duba community in Batsari LGA of Katsina State on Saturday.
According to reports, the assailants (numbering over 300) wielded General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and other sophisticated weapons.
The gunmen stormed Duba community, shooting sporadically into the air, after which they looted many shops and rustled some domestic animals belonging to the residents.
The Katsina state police command has confirmed the incident, stating that a joint team of security operatives are on the trail of the hoodlums as further investigation is ongoing.
A source in the community said that the remains of the deceased were buried on Sunday and those injured are being attended to at the hospital.
Batsari local government area is one of the worst hit by bandits in the state.
Katsina state which happens to be the President’s home, has been the epicenter of recent attacks by bandits.
Recall that Chronicle NG reported last week that 7 students of an Islamic school were abducted while having evening lessons.
The latest incident comes after the Governor of the Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari urged residents to defend themselves against bandits.
