Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is optimistic that Harry Kane will recover in time for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Celtic, despite the striker missing training ahead of the game.

Reports from German media suggest that Kane sustained a knock during Bayern’s 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday in the Bundesliga.

Although Kompany could not confirm Kane’s availability, he indicated that a final decision would be made on the morning of the match.

“(It’s) definitely nothing bad. We’ve just had very little time to recover and sometimes you need an extra day,” Kompany said on Monday.

Kane, along with Bayern’s other attackers, played a more defensive role against Leverkusen, helping to maintain the team’s eight-point lead at the top of the table. The England captain also required treatment before halftime after colliding with Piero Hincapie’s shoulder.

Looking ahead to the crucial fixture, Kompany remained hopeful about Kane’s condition. “We’ll see early tomorrow how he feels, but I assume it’s nothing too bad – we’ve just got very little time to refresh and recover,” he added. “We’ll see tomorrow.”

Kane had played a key role in Bayern’s 2-1 victory at Celtic Park last week in the first leg of the knockout phase play-off tie. The German champions also boast an impressive home record, having remained unbeaten in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena since April 2021.

Kompany acknowledged the challenge posed by their Scottish opponents but expressed confidence in Bayern’s home advantage. “Celtic (are) always dangerous, but so are we. It’s a home game, we’ll look to make that play to our advantage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala emphasized the team’s determination to deliver a strong performance despite the quick turnaround from their previous match.

“None of us want to have excuses. We’re using the days to prepare well for the game – then we have to give it our all. We’re fresh and will give it everything tomorrow,” Musiala stated.
