    Kidnapped Ekiti school children, teachers regain freedom

    The students and staff of the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure, Ekiti, who were kidnapped have been released.

    Sunday Abutu, spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, confirmed on Sunday morning that the driver had died.

    The abductees were reportedly released in the early hours of Sunday.

    They were kidnapped on Monday evening while they were returning to Eporo after school.

    The kidnappers opened fire on the bus and then abducted nine people, including five pupils, three female teachers, and a driver.

    The police PPRO said, “All victims were rescued today at about 1.30am, but unfortunately, we lost the driver who was suspectedly killed by the abductors.”

    A government official in Emure, confirmed the abductees’ release, saying, “The abductees are here; the parents and family members are here. I will give you details shortly.”

    A source, who also corroborated the occurrence, claimed that officials from the state Ministry of Health were on the scene to transport them to Ado Ekiti, the state capital, for medical treatment.

    Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji promised parents and families of kidnapped students and staff from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure, Ekiti, on Saturday that they would be recovered and returned to them shortly.
