Juventus Football Club confirmed on Friday the signing of Canadian international Jonathan David from French club Lille.

Juventus announced on Friday via its website that David was born in Brooklyn to Haitian parents and raised in Ottawa, Canada.

He began his football career with local clubs Ottawa Gloucester and Ottawa Internationals before making the move to Europe at age 17.

He joined with Belgian club Gent, where he soon made an impression, scoring on his debut in August 2018.

During his two seasons in Belgium, he scored 37 goals and assisted 15 times in 83 games, finishing as the Belgian league’s top scorer in the 2019-2020 season.

David moved to Lille in the summer of 2020, where he lasted five seasons and established himself as a crucial player.

He scored 87 goals in 178 league games and had a total of 109 goals and 30 assists in 232 appearances across all competitions.

His stay at Lille saw him win the Ligue 1 title in 2020/2021 and the French Super Cup the following year.

David made his international debut with the Canadian senior team in September 2018, scoring twice. Since then, he has 66 caps and 35 goals, having also represented his country at the youth level.

Juventus welcomed the 24-year-old forward in an official statement, saying, “Jonathan David is a talented striker who adds quality to our squad. We warmly welcome him and wish him all the best—see you on the pitch, Jonathan.”
