The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has expressed condolences to the state government following the death of 12 people in a boat accident.
The House of Assembly also sympathized with the bereaved families and the Lafia Local Government Area following the loss of lives in the boat accident on the Kogi Kungra Kamfani river in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, Speaker of the Nasarawa House of Assembly, delivered the condolence message during an emergency session in Lafia on Thursday.
While expressing his condolences to the grieving families for the loss of their dear ones, he said, “It is very sad that we lost 12 people, comprising men and women, in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.
“19 people were on board; 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident.”
The Nasarawa State Assembly, which observed a minute’s silence in honor of the dead victims, urged the families, Lafia LGA, and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.
“On behalf of myself, honorable members, and the staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA, and the state government over their deaths in the boat mishap.
“We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest,” he added.
