The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the March 18 poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Yusuf, who ran under the banner of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the election winner.
Despite his APC opponent, Nasir Gawuna, congratulating him on his victory, the party went to court to challenge his victory at the polls.
The three-man panel on Wednesday, ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
The Tribunal deducted 165,663 votes from the Kano State Governor, Gov. Yusuf total as invalid votes, stating that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
