The Federal Capital Territory Court dismissed a motion filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) for an order detaining suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele for an extra 14 days.

The security agency notified the Court that new information had been discovered that justified the request for the injunction even more.

However, the vacation judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, questioned his Court’s power to hear the case, citing sections 293 and 296 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which provide the Magistrate Court with sole rights to make detention orders.

Following this development, DSS attorney Victor Ejelonu’s motion was withdrawn, and the Court proceeded to strike it out.

Emefiele was detained again in Lagos following his arraignment before a Federal High Court in Lagos on a two-count charge.
