Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday he had handed back work to President Muhammadu Buhari following the latter’s return from medical leave in Britain.

“We just had a very long meeting … basically trying to bring the president up to speed as to some of the things we have done while he was away‎,” Osinbajo told reporters.

“By and large, practically everything I discuss fully with him and have his endorsement before we are able to go on and do anything at all,” he added.

My message to you: I'm glad to be back home, & grateful for your prayers. The best way to repay you is to rededicate myself to serving you. pic.twitter.com/vy03y6Nap1

Earlier today, Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, confirmed that President Buhari has sent a letter to the National Assembly informing them of his resumption of office.

Similarly, Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesperson took to Twitter to reveal that President Buhari has signed a letter informing the National Assembly of his return after his medical vacation in London.

PMB has signed a letter informing the N'Assembly of his resumption of duty from today. He receives briefing from the VP in a short while.

He said that the letter formalised the president’s return.

“PMB has signed a letter informing the N’Assembly of his resumption of duty from today. He receives briefing from the VP in a short while.”

Adesina’s post debunks some reports indicating that the President had asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to continue to act on his behalf.

Buhari left Nigeria on January 19 for a 10-day leave but sought an extension following doctors recommendation to do so.
