A federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a female TikTok user, Nwakaego Okoye, to three years imprisonment for cyberstalking Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus.

The preceding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, gave the ruling on Wednesday.

Nwakaego was convicted after pleading guilty to two counts of cyberstalking.

Following the convict’s contrition, Justice Oweibo allowed her the choice of paying a N150,000 fine instead of going to jail.

According to the suit, Nwakaego and one Chimabia (who is still at large) planned to commit the crime in Lagos between December 2022 and July 2023.

It added that the offence contravened Sections 24(1)(b)(2)(a)(c) and 27 of the Cyber crimes Act, 2015.

Okoye, who was detained for spreading derogatory allegations about actress Eniola Badmus, admitted she did so because a friend, Fortune Ibe, promised her N200,000.

However, Badmus turned down appeals to settle the case outside of court, instead, she charged her for slandering her hard earned reputation.

Okoye, who was shown in a video clip apologising for her acts, stated that she needed the money to pay her house rent and that desperation drove her to act in such a way.

She said, “What happened was that a friend of mine, Fortune Ibe, said if I should come out and talk about Mrs. Eniola Badmus, he was going to send me N200k because I told him about my rent.

“That was what prompted the video. I am so sorry; I just did that because I was desperate to pay my house rent. I just did it because of the money.”
