Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, was taken into custody on Monday for interrogation and other investigation activities by the Nigeria Police Force.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police Command, revealed the arrest on social media.
Naira Marley has been accused of killing or knowing about the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, known by the stage name Mohbad.
Marley has denied any knowledge or involvement in the death of Mohbad, who was previously signed to his record label, Marlian Records.
Although Chronicle NG discovered that the arrest, according to Hundeyin, was without picture or video evidence, this has fueled doubts on social media.
Shortly before his arrest, Naira Marley explained that he would be returning to Nigeria to assist police with the investigation of Mohbad’s death. “I would like to share that I have just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria, to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole.
He added, “I will be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.
