Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight and detained by immigration officers late on Thursday night while attempting to leave the country.

Bobrisky posted on his Instagram page to alert followers about the arrest, stating that he had sustained injuries during an altercation with the immigration officers.

The crossdresser alleges that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is responsible for his detention.

He wrote, “Nigerians, help me; EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”

On 22 October, the controversial crossdresser was intercepted at the Sème border while allegedly attempting to flee the country.

The controversy surrounding him began in April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse.

Although he was formally detained at Kirikiri Prison, sources later claimed that Bobrisky spent only three weeks there before being surreptitiously transported to a secret location.

There was widespread conjecture that his early release and privileged treatment were achieved through bribery, with allegations of a ₦15 million payment made to officials to guarantee his transfer and preferential conditions.

The crisis worsened in late September 2024, when social media personality VeryDarkMan shared an audio tape supposedly featuring Bobrisky.

According to leaked audio, Bobrisky stated that music singer Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his imprisonment and asked for ₦10 million to win a presidential pardon.

Falana and Falz responded with a cease-and-desist letter dated October 16, 2024, requesting a retraction and public apology for what they regarded as defamatory allegations.

However, Bobrisky denied making these accusations, claiming that he was not responsible for the stolen content and asking the Falanas to hold VeryDarkMan accountable instead.
