The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has stated that the Commission is fighting corruption and internet crimes to protect the future of students across the country, charging them to be more committed to the fight.

The EFCC boss stated this recently in Abuja when students of Britmax International School visited the Commission’s headquarters on a study tour.

Olukoyede, represented by the Head, EFCC 97.3 Fm Radio Station, Deputy Commander of the Commission, DCE Nwanyinma Okeanu, said the fight against corruption was meant to eradicate vices from the society.

According to him, the mandate of the Commission, since its conception, is to fight economic and financial crimes and correct the anomalies affecting the future and dreams of every Nigerian, especially youths and to see that every young person is treated rightly.

‘‘The job of the EFCC is to sanitize our financial space and see that everyone is treated equally. The EFCC is an organization that fights for the people and restores the good things of the country. The fight against economic and financial crimes starts with you as a student, teacher, and as a parent”, she said.

He stressed that corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the lives of younger ones and the society at large, adding that the fight is for Nigerians irrespective of age and position to ensure a better Nigeria.

Head, Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE II Aisha Mohammed, charged the students to be good ambassadors and representatives of the Commission by spreading the anti-corruption message to everyone they come across.

‘‘You are all important stakeholders of the Commission. Always have a positive spirit and remember that your voices matter in this fight. Be a change agent wherever you are. This engagement is focused on catching and orienting the mindsets of the young ones to be good ambassadors of your family and Commission at large.

Continuing, she stressed that, “the holy book is there to guide you, the future belongs to you. Spread this message to everyone you come across. Stand for integrity always”.

Assistant Superintendent of EFCC, ASE I, Ogunjobi Olalekan, while speaking on cybercrime and its impact, encouraged them to pursue their dreams and ambition adding that they can attain excellence and be whatever they want to be through determination, hard work, integrity, transparency and accountability.

‘‘You can be whatever you want to become by hard work and determination. We need you as programmers, forensic analysts and so on and try not to yield to peer group pressures,’’ he said.

An EFCC’s quiz contest was organized and won by Thomas Oluwatosin Akhigbe and Jahdiel Akinrowo. They got mobile phones each for their outstanding performance and were crowned EFCC’s ambassadors.
