President Bola Tinubu is expected to inaugurate the multibillion-naira Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance for Postgraduate Studies and Research at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

The commissioning of the project by Tinubu is part of the celebrations for the 90th birthday and 64th coronation of Ijebuland’s Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, which began Friday with a jumat prayer at the Ijebu-Ode Central Mosque.

Dr. Kunle Hassan, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, made the announcement during a press briefing on Friday in Ijebu Ode.

Hassan described the royal father as a rare patriot and nationalist of the highest kind, whose rule has resulted in enormous success.

He stated that Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne of his forefathers on April 2, 1960, six months before the country gained independence, placed a high value on good administration, thinking that its absence has contributed greatly to the issues that undeveloped nations face.

Hassan stated, “The Ijebu monarch, Alaiyeluwa Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona represents the totality of the worthy ancestral heritage of a people that have carved a niche for themselves in governance.

“It was, therefore, not a surprise that the monarch, shortly after his 80th birthday, founded the Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance in the Department of Political Science of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.
“This endeavour has led to the establishment of the School of Governance for postgraduate and research studies in governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, the first in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“The multi-billion naira and iconic project is expected to be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of activities to mark the 90th birthday anniversary of the monarch on Friday, May 10, 2024.”
