In a bid to boost his credibility ahead of the 2019 presidential election, Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki finally released the locations of 52 classrooms which he nominated in the 2017 budget.

Transparency platform, Tracka, had demanded that the senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the 8th assembly provide details of the projects for accountability and transparency purposes.

For over three months, Saraki and his team refused to provide the locations to Tracka, instead referring the platform to the MDA in charge of the project.

But barely a day after Saraki declared his ambition to run for presidency on the platform of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, a project team released the locations of the 52 classrooms.

The 52 classrooms which cost over N1 billion are yet to be identified as Mr Saraki’s project team did not provide pictorial evidences to back up the locations.

But Tracka has assured Nigerians that it will track down every classroom listed by Mr Saraki’s project team.

“Our team will carry out an independent investigation on the project locations and avail pictures of the implementation status,” Tracka said.

“A better life is possible when the budget is tracked and delivered to the citizens,” Tracka added.

Hours before Tracka was availed of the information, it had tweeted the reluctance of Mr Saraki, who is the chairman of the national assembly to lead transparently.

“Sen @bukolasaraki & UBEC have refused to provide details of the N1,050bn school projects nominated into 2017 budget in Kwara Central. It’s 66days today we are yet to get a response to the 2 FOI letters we wrote requesting the locations and implementation status of the project.”
