The federal government has reportedly shut down Lead British International School in Abuja following the bullying of Namtira, a student of the institution.

According to reports, the minister of justice, the minister of education, and human rights organizations were at the school on Tuesday to investigate the incident.

Chronicle NG reports that Namtira, an SS2 student at the school, was videotaped getting bullied by other students.

In the now-viral video, Namtira’s classmate, a student identified as Maryam Hassan, was seen slapping and beating the defenseless girl to the cheers of other students.

The incident, which has attracted backlash from Nigerians, sent social media agog, with many calling for the closing down of the school and the expulsion of the lead culprit.

However, the federal government, according to reports, has closed down the school for the interim while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

This was announced in a statement on X by an X user simply identified as Hannatu.

Hannatu wrote, “The school has been shut down for now, and the student responsible will be expelled.”

She added that “the minister of justice, women affairs, FCT minister, and human rights are presently at the school’s premises, and the school has been shut down. Everyone was asked to vacate except the students involved.”
