President Donald Trump of America displays the executive order banning citizens of seven countries from entering the US

The US federal appeals court has rejected the Trump administration’s request to immediately reinstate a travel ban blocked by a federal judge on Friday.

The ban targeted people from seven mainly Muslim countries.

State lawyers had argued it was unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The federal judge in Seattle had ruled against government lawyers’ claims that states did not have the standing to challenge Mr Trump’s executive order.

On Twitter Trump described the ruling as ‘opening up the US to potential terrorists’.

“The judge opens up our country to potential terrorists and others that do not have our best interests at heart. Bad people are very happy!
    30,765 replies 16,310 retweets 71,398 likes.”

Prior that tweet he had written that: “Because the ban was lifted by a judge, many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country. A terrible decision”

Trump was short of having a go at the judge. “What is our country coming to when a judge can halt a Homeland Security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into U.S.?”
