Sterling Bank, one of Nigeria’s biggest financial lenders, has donated N250 million to support the Federal Government’s effort to curtail the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

This was disclosed in a statement sent by Abubakar Suleiman, the Chief Executive of Sterling Bank, on Friday to all the Bank’s customers to also support the Federal Government by contributing their quota.

According to the financial institution, the donation is part of its contribution to the Bankers’ Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to combat the epidemic, adding that it is also working with the newly formed Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19.

“We and our partners in the Bankers’ Committee are leading the effort to raise money towards the N120bn required by the government to fight the pandemic. To help achieve our shared goal of eradicating the virus, Sterling Bank will be contributing Two Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N250,000,000) as part of our commitment to the coalition,” the email to Sterling Bank customers reads.

Sterling Bank, however, admitted that more efforts have to be done by both corporate organisations and individuals respectively to support the fight against the pandemic.

To this end, the bank has launched a special COVID-19 fund where Nigerians can make their contributions towards supporting the cause.

“We would like you to join us in the fight against COVID-19, by making a contribution to the Fight COVID-19 Fund (FCF) to help us all defeat this pandemic for good.

“Every Naira donated will go a long way in saving the country we call home.”

The organisation urged all Nigerians to make their contributions to COVID Donations, a Sterling Bank account with account number: 0076813615.
