The Senate has confirmed Zach Adedeji’s appointment to lead the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
After being screened at the plenary session on Tuesday, Adedeji was confirmed by a majority vote of senators.
Adedeji vowed to increase the agency’s data mining capabilities in order to make suitable tax judgements prior to his confirmation.
He blamed income leaks on a lack of data on the finances of domestic and international businesses operating in the country.
“We will improve our data mining capacity. We will develop the data upon which will we make decisions on taxes.” he stated.
He also promised to investigate the Federal Government’s tax credit programme, which provides some firms tax breaks in return for infrastructure provision.
