Nigerians have reacted angrily on Saturday as Access Bank deducted staggering stamp duty from customers across the country.

Some of the customers who took to social media to display their disgust at the charges by Access Bank said they were not going to do business with the financial institution anymore.

Others said they were going to shut down their bank accounts and move to competitors who have better services.

An Access Bank customer, Lawal Afeez Arishekola, described the Stamp Duty charge as a ‘evil’ in a tweet. He alerted the Central Bank of Nigeria to the activities of the bank.

Access Bank just deducted N7,650 from my account all in the name of stamp duty. This is different from N2200, and N1500 they deducted earlier today,” he wrote on Twitter account with a screenshot of the amount deducted. What’s happening? This is evil!

Another user, who goes by the name, Sleeky Tee wrote the apex bank to intervene. “Dear
Central Bank, I will love to bring to your notice that Access Bank has been nothing but, disastrous in their customer service. How can I be charged N450 for stamp duty in just one single day? This is frustrating. Yet, all my complains remain unattended to,” he claimed.

Another user, Damilare Lawal claimed three deductions have been made on his account. “Just today alone, for something that is meant to be N50, Access Bank and Hushpuppi are no different,” he tweeted with three screenshots as evidence.

Stamp duty fee keeps on being deducted from my account and I don’t know why, everytime I make a transfer it’s deducted, I’m not making any transfer it is still deducted, what’s happening?
And I want them credited back

Another user, Atuokoye Chidubem Ferdinad, explained why the bank made multiple charges. “This is the reason behind the multiple stamp duty charges for Access Bank customers. They debited N700 as stamp duty charges from my account yesterday, now again, they just debited me N2100 for stamp duty charges again,” he tweeted a screenshot that read, “Access Bank to charge customers omitted three months Stamp Duty payment”.
