Dangote selling diesel at N1000 not worth celebrating – James Agwu

James Agwu has condemned the celebration over the reduction of the price of a litre of fuel to N1000 by Dangote Refinery.

The Chronicle NG reports that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a further reduction in the price of diesel.

A few weeks ago, when it commenced operation, Dangote Petroleum Refinery pegged the price of diesel at N1,200.

While rolling out the products, the refinery supplied them at a substantially reduced price of N1,200 per litre three weeks ago.

This represented an over 30 percent reduction from the previous market price of about N1,600 per litre.

However, on Tuesday, a further reduction of N200 was noticed in the price, with the product now pegged at N1,000.

Nigerians welcomed the news of the reduction, with many lauding the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government.

However, reacting to the news, Agwu, in a statement on X on Wednesday, argued that Nigerians should not be celebrating “mediocrity.”

He mentioned that during the administration of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, a litre of diesel was sold “at N100 per liter and N209 per litre when he left office in 2015.”

He added that a reduction to N1000 is not a good price because “Buhari/APC took it to N817 from 289 Naira (182.64% increase) in 2022, and Tinubu took it to almost N2,000.”

Agwu’s statement reads, “Diesel that Buhari/APC took to N817 from 289 Naira (182.64% increase) in 2022 and Bulaba took it to almost N2,000 is what some mediocre are celebrating that Dangote refinery slashes to N1,000 per litre.”

“In 2009, when GEJ entered power, diesel was sold at N100 per litre and N209 per liter when he left office in 2015 after 6 years, but your APC took it from N209 to N2000 in just 8 years, and you’re celebrating a slash to N1000. You guys need serious deliverance.”
