President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Godswill Akpabio, President of the 10th Nigerian Senate, on his 61st birthday.

This was said on Friday in Abuja by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

He praised Akpabio as a political leader whose credentials and accomplishments continue to garner attention both at home and abroad.

Tinubu praised the former Governor of Akwa Ibom and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, who became governor at the age of 45 after serving as a commissioner in three distinct ministries.

He admired the Senate President’s loyalty, passion, and commitment over the years, with measurable and lasting legacies to show for his tenure in numerous offices.

According to the president, Akpabio’s achievements were most notably exemplified by the extraordinary transformation of Akwa Ibom into one of the most vibrant and frontline states in the country.

Tinubu wished the President of the National Assembly, whose service to the nation continues to inspire patriotism, many happy returns as the Senate President turns 61 on Saturday.

The president prayed to God to continue to bless Sen. Akpabio and his family.

Retired Nigeria Police Force men and their families blocked a gate at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday to protest their continued inclusion in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The demonstrators, led by the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), branded the program as "fraudulent, illegal, inhumane, and obnoxious" and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the Police Exit Bill. According to the retirees, if signed into law, the bill, which was passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the president on March 16, 2026, would remove police personnel from the CPS. The National Coordinator of PROF, CSP Raphael Irowainu (retd.), led the protest and stated that the goal was to get the president to act on the legislation. “Our major aim here is to prevail on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign our bill—the bill exiting the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme—passed by the National Assembly on 4th December 2025 and transmitted to him on 16th March 2026 into law, nothing more than that,” he said. Ads by Irowainu bemoaned that while other security agencies have been removed from the scheme, police personnel remain included. “The soldiers have been exited, the SSS has been exited, the Air Force has been exited, the Navy has been exited, and the National Intelligence Agency has been exited. The police, who are the father of them all, are trapped in this obnoxious Contributory Pension Scheme,” he added. The pensioners maintained that the CPS had a negative impact on their wellbeing, calling it a "slavery and untimely death-inducing pension scheme." Monday's demonstration is not the first time retired police officers have raised the issue. In July 2025, retirees held a similar demonstration at the National Assembly, seeking their expulsion from the plan. Some demonstrators, many of whom were elderly, also protested at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, expressing their dissatisfaction with the CPS's pension arrangements. The latest protest reflects rising frustration among retired police officers with pension reforms and their exclusion from benefits provided to other security organizations.
