The 14-year-old internally displaced Chagu Terhemen, who was bitten by a snake on Friday in Benue state, has died.
Terhemen was heading to the farm with his father in Tse Kyomke mbapupuu, Gaambe Ushin Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area, Benue State, when he was bitten by a snake.
Terna Ibaah, a displaced person, said on Sunday that the 14-year-old snake bite sufferer had rejected customary care and was convulsing.
Ibaah, who sent a message to our correspondent on Tuesday morning, stated that the adolescent was transported to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi on Monday at the request of the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, James Iorpuu.
He said, “The Benue State SEMA boss, Mr. Iorpuu James Aondoakaa, ordered that the boy who was bitten by a snake be taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment, but he died yesterday (on Monday) night, September 1, at the hospital.”
Ibaah told journalists on Sunday that about 12 IDPs, including the deceased, had suffered snake bites in Agagbe camps between January and August.
“From January till now, we have recorded 12 victims of snake bite in Agagbe among the IDPs. Fortunately, no one has died,” Ibaah stated on Sunday.
