Police in Benue State have arrested four people in connection with the murder of Late Justice Margaret Igbetar, a former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, whose decomposing body was discovered on August 24, 2023.

Mr Audu Joseph, the prime suspect and nephew of the late Justice, orchestrated the murder, according to the Commissioner of Police in Benue, Bartholomew Onyeka, who revealed this while briefing journalists in Makurdi.

According to him, Joseph hired Dzungwenen Ukor, who collaborated with the Late Justice’s chauffeur and gateman to obtain access to her and stabbed her numerous times in the chest.

The prime suspect told journalists that he now regrets his actions, which arose from his late aunt’s refusal to hand over land ownership paperwork belonging to his late father to him after numerous failed family interventions.

He then resorted to self-help, murdering the deceased Justice in order to obtain the documents from her Makurdi house.
