UEFA’s financial body have rejected an appeal from Barcelona after the club were hit with a €500,000 fine over misreporting in their financial results.
The governing body of European football informed the Catalan club in July of this year that they were in violation of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations during a turbulent time off the field.
Barcelona were joined by Manchester United in getting hit with a hefty bill, with the Camp Nou side due to pay half a million euros, while United were fined €300,000. Despite UEFA rejecting an appeal from the dominant La Liga teams, the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) First Chamber has upheld the decision.
Barcelona were fined for “wrongly reporting’ in last year’s financial results with ‘profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations.” The Catalan club looked to fight the fine with an appeal, which has now been ditched with the original decision to stand.
Barcelona said in the summer they would appeal the decision described as “disproportionate” decision and added: “It will go all the way to the last instance (Court of Arbitration for Sport), if necessary.”
Several high-profile European clubs, including Paris St Germain, AC Milan and Inter Milan, who agreed settlements with UEFA in September last year, have fulfilled targets set for the financial year 2022.
