Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has fortified places of worship, and critical installations, and deployed human and material resources across the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital to ensure the safety of residents during the Easter celebration. Reno Omokri, the former aide of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has suffered backlash following the emergence of 44-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the president-elect of Senegal.  Results showed Faye with about 53.7% and Amadou Ba, from the current ruling coalition, with 36.2% based on tallies from 90% of polling stations in the first-round vote, the electoral commission said. Frank Geng Quangrong, a Chinese man on trial for the murder of his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Buhari, was condemned to death by hanging by a Kano High Court. Quangrong, 47, was found guilty of culpable homicide, punishable by death under Section 221 of Kano State’s Penal Code Law, and punished accordingly. On September 16, 2022, Mr. Quangrong stabbed his 23-year-old daughter to death at her family home in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano. Nigerian activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has described the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as a “curse” to Nigeria.  In a statement on X on Monday, Yesufu berated Tinubu for allegedly failing to provide an “enabling environment” for people to work and make ends meet. No fewer than seven Chadian soldiers were killed when their vehicle hit a landmine in a lawless region where jihadist groups, including Nigeria’s Boko Haram and an Islamic State offshoot, are active. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad discovered a big illicit oil refining site in a forest in Odagwa Community, Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State. Over ten clandestine refineries were discovered at the site, with an estimated 500,000 liters of crude oil contained in approximately 50 illegally constructed reservoirs, and five individuals were apprehended.
