Gunmen attacked a police check-point on the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway, setting fire to a police patrol van on Thursday. According to reports, the event occurred near the Ishieke Junction on the outskirts of the Abakaliki metropolis. The Anambra State Police Command has disclosed that it has raided certain hideouts purportedly belonging to gunmen who specialise in targeting police formations in the state.  SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, said in a statement on Wednesday that the operation was carried out on Friday by the state’s Joint Security Force in the Ogbaru forest in the Ogbaru Local Government Area. Jarret Tenebe, the acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, has expressed support for Philip Shaibu, the state’s impeached deputy governor.  Tenebe is believed to have paid a solidarity visit to Shaibu at his Abuja home on Wednesday. Nollywood actor Junior Pope has reportedly survived the boat mishap, which was reported to have claimed his life and that of three other actors.  The actor reportedly died in a boat mishap while crossing the River Niger to a shooting location. Videos posted by the actor before the boat accident showed the perplexed actor complaining about the speed of the boat. Two unidentified passengers were thrown into the lagoon, and many others were injured, during an accident on Lagos State’s Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday. A video posted on Sabi Radio’s Instagram account on Wednesday shows men from the Nigerian Marine Police carrying out a rescue mission for two casualties.
