The council of Fulani chiefs of south-western Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to a ban on night, underage grazing and the wielding of firearms by herders in the region. Israel has dramatically expanded its military campaign in the Middle East by launching an airstrike in Qatar, killing five Hamas members and sparking an international backlash. The strike, which rocked Doha on Tuesday, reportedly targeted Hamas’ senior political figures based in the Qatari capital. Among the dead was the son of exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator Khalil al-Hayya. Hamas claimed Israel had attempted to assassinate its ceasefire negotiation team but insisted its top leadership survived. Footage verified by Reuters showed a huge explosion in central Doha. Despite the blast, Hamas officials confirmed that negotiators involved in ceasefire talks were…
France’s political crisis has deepened after Prime Minister François Bayrou and his minority government were toppled in a crushing no-confidence vote over his debt-cutting plans. Bayrou lost heavily, with 364 lawmakers voting against him and just 194 in support. His resignation is expected on Tuesday, leaving President Emmanuel Macron under intense pressure to quickly appoint a successor — his fifth prime minister in less than two years. At the heart of the clash was Bayrou’s proposal to slash €44 billion (£37bn) from next year’s budget in a bid to rein in France’s soaring deficit, which stands at nearly twice the…

Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Nottingham Forest and set the target of winning silverware after replacing the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo. Nuno left his position at the City Ground late on Monday night after 21 months in charge – and only three games into the season. Postecoglou returns to management three months after he was sacked by Tottenham following a dismal Premier League season when they finished 17th. However, the 60-year-old Australian led Spurs to a historic Europa League victory at the end of the season to end the club’s long trophy drought. Postecoglou will be presented…
KP Sharma Oli, prime minister of Nepal, has resigned following days of violent anti-government protests that have left at least 21 people dead. Oli, 73, announced his resignation in a letter to the president on Tuesday, saying the decision was necessary to “take further steps towards a political solution and resolution of the problems”. The Himalayan nation has been rocked by unrest since Monday after the government attempted to impose a ban on social media platforms. Although the restriction was later reversed, anger over alleged corruption, political nepotism, and economic stagnation has continued to fuel nationwide protests. Demonstrations turned violent…

Egypt will qualify if they beat Burkina Faso, while South Africa will qualify if they beat Nigeria, and Benin fail to beat Lesotho,” the world governing body posted on X. Bafana Bafana currently lead Group C…
Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of reckless borrowing, wasteful spending, and worsening hunger across Nigeria. Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Melaye argued that the government’s rising appetite for loans has plunged the nation into deeper economic hardship despite claims of increased revenue. “There is massive hunger in the land. Why is the president borrowing $1.7 billion from the World Bank? Why has the Senate approved $21 billion so far with more still coming?” Melaye asked. The outspoken politician went further, mocking the scale of borrowing:…
