The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Services, Muhammed Babandede, has confirmed that his test for coronavirus (COVID-19) returned positive. The Immigration boss on Sunday morning explained that he has begun self-isolation since he returned from the United Kingdom on March 22. “Today, I tested positive for COVID-19. US President Donald Trump has said quarantining New York “will not be necessary”, after the state’s governor said doing so would be “preposterous”. Mr Trump said the latest decision was taken on the recommendation of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. The president had earlier said he might impose a quarantine on New York, and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut, to slow the spread of Covid-19. There are more than 52,000 cases in New York. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced eight new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin says the current football season could be lost if it cannot be restarted by the end of June. US President Donald Trump has said he is considering imposing a quarantine on New York in a bid to slow the spread of the coronavirus. “We’d like to see [it] quarantined because it’s a hotspot,” he told reporters. “I’m thinking about that.” He spoke as confirmed cases in the state increased to more than 52,000, around half of the total in the US.
