Tobi Amusan qualified for the 100m hurdles final race after winning her semi-final heat at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships on Monday.
The world record holder in the event crossed the line in 12.36 seconds to win heat 2 ahead of Nadine Visser, the world number two-ranked sprinter, with both athletes taking the automatic qualification slots.
Amusan had the third-best start. The Nigerian stormed off the block in 0.172s, caught up with Visser before moving ahead of the Netherlands sprinter and relaxed at the home stretch for the easy win.
She had the overall best qualification time in the semi-finals, ahead of Diamond League winner Grace Stark and Olympic champion Masai Russell, both of the USA, and Danielle Williams, Jamaica’s two-time world champion.
The final will take place later on Monday.
Elsewhere, Ezekiel Nathaniel advanced into the semi-final of the 400m men’s event, winning heat 5 in 48.37s, while Charles Edward Godfred was eliminated in the long jump event; his 7.79m leap was not enough to reach the final.
