Air Peace has suspended all flights to Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State.

The airline blamed the development on failing airport infrastructure, which it claims has continued to create safety concerns.

The airline complained about the airport runway, which it said was creating significant disruptions to its flights.Air Peace issued a statement on Saturday morning confirming this.

The airline bemoaned that the situation at the Enugu airport runway could no longer be managed and urged authorities to intervene immediately.

“At Air Peace, we prioritise safety first over convenience. We believe that if flights are not operated into this aerodrome for the next few days, it will allow the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria the opportunity to perform the necessary repairs on the runway,” the airline stated.

Air Peace stated that all flights scheduled into and out of Enugu will now be operated from Asaba, Delta State.

“Please be informed that all flights scheduled into and out of Enugu will now be operated into and out of Asaba.

“We regret any inconvenience this change may have caused,” the airline added.

Chronicle NG reports that the federal government has announced that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State will be temporarily closed.

Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, confirmed this in a statement issued Saturday morning.

Orah stated that the Enugu airport was closed to allow for emergency repairs on a damaged section of the runway.

“There is a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

“Hence, emergency repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025,” she explained.
