Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed that the salaries of 10,800 workers engaged by his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, be suspended.
The directive from the governor was announced by the Accountant General of the state, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam.
Abba had accused Ganduje of illegally employing over 10,000 workers when he was about to leave office.
Abdusalam stated that the governor ordered his office to remove the affected workers from the state’s payroll.
He further stated that his office would conduct an investigation to determine the legitimacy of their engagement and the processes to remove those who had been fraudulently recruited.
Regarding local government employees in the state, Abdusalam stated that those who were switched to state employees by the previous administration will continue to be paid.
However, he stated that it would be based on local government levels and that they would be required to continue working in their new state’s MDAs until the investigation was completed.
