Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia is dead.

It was gathered that the 64-year-old died at the National Hospital Abuja.

Dr Mailafia was born on 24 December 1956 in the village of Randa, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

He served as the deputy governor of the CBN between 2005 and 2007.

He was also a former official of the African Development Bank Group

From 2010 to 2015, Dr Mailafia was the chief of staff (Chef de Cabinet) to the 79-member nation African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States based in Brussels, Belgium.

Mailafia was an outspoken critic of the Buhari-administration.

    • Buhari’s Fulanisation agenda is real, says Mailafia

Dr Mailafia contested for the presidential seat in 2019 under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was eventually won by Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
