A pilot has died after a light plane crashed during agricultural spraying operations in the state of South Australia, the police revealed.
According to a statement from SA Police, the crash occurred on Monday about 1:30 p.m. local time in fields near the small community of Yeelanna, 275 kilometers west of the state capital of Adelaide.
The pilot and only occupant, a 36-year-old man, died on the spot.
SA Police said that major crash investigators were dispatched on Monday night to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
It also stated that the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the event.
The ATSB stated that the Air Tractor agricultural aircraft collided with the terrain while spraying fields.
It stated that ATSB investigators who specialize in aviation operations would be dispatched to the location to collect evidence and inspect the wreckage.
Aircraft components collected from the scene will be inspected at the ATSB’s technical facilities in Canberra.
